Access to dried plasma remains critically limited. Fewer than 50,000 units are produced globally each year, with manufacturing concentrated in only a small number of countries.
Velico is working to change this through its FrontlineODP™ Spray Dried Plasma Manufacturing System. Designed for use in blood centers, it enables decentralized production of shelf-stable spray dried plasma in flexible, ultra-lightweight PVC bags. The spray dried plasma can be rehydrated and ready for transfusion in 2.5 minutes, bringing it closer to patients in ambulances, helicopters, rural clinics and military settings.
Positive results from Velico’s Phase 1 safety trial showed that FrontlineODP™ was well tolerated across all dose levels, with a safety profile comparable to standard frozen plasma.
Velico has also developed the veliPod™, a modular, containerized decentralized manufacturing facility. Rapidly deployable without extensive pharmaceutical infrastructure or purpose-built clean rooms, it enables sovereign, scalable production at military bases, blood centers and other strategic or remote locations.
The first veliPod™, inaugurated at the French Armed Forces Blood Transfusion Centre in Clamart, France.
Velico’s new U.S. production facility will support up to 100,000 units annually, advancing the wider availability of spray dried plasma.
CAUTION: FrontlineODP™ has not received FDA or EU approval for any indication.
